Blues on an oboe

Francesco Marcheselli is the only Italian jazz oboe player in the world, and arguably the world's one and only blues oboist. He so happens to be studying at the same place as me, at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

For the most personal song I'd ever written I really, really wanted to feature an oboe. One of the records I grew up listening to on my parents' record player was of Bach's oboe concertos.

When I learned Francesco is a singer-songwriter too - among the first to explore the singer/songwriting territory as an oboist - I asked him if he wanted to meet up. Francesco has a bachelor degree in classical music from the Milan Conservatory, so in a way we have both moved from a classical background into songwriting.

Francesco brings the fresh and unique sound of his instrument into his own songs, and released his first EP Love Consequences in June 2025. I hope to release my first album in 2026, and am absolutely thrilled with how Francesco played on my song Wait Out the Storm. Although not planned originally, I am considering releasing it as a single when the mixing and mastering is done.
